Gluten free candy is very hard to figure out. Reading labels for gluten is a hassle which is why I created this gluten-free candy list to make it easier! Every Halloween, Valentine's Day, and Easter, I update this gluten-free candy list to make sure you are all safe around the holidays. There's so many candies that can contain gluten that you would have never thought of! This list will at least let you know what you can have while being gluten-free. If you would like any brands added to this list, please comment and I will look it up for you! I hope this helps!

When's the last time you went on a picnic while gluten-free? To be honest, I don't think many people go on picnics that much anymore! It's such a nice experience to be outside with your family or a loved one, enjoying the outdoors away from your phones and the technology in the world. You truly get to enjoy the time you have with one another all while enjoying some delicious food. When it comes to gluten-free, what exactly do you pack for a picnic and how do you keep it fresh? There can be a few more difficulties when it comes to having a gluten free picnic so here's some tips from myself and Enjoy Life Foods to have a successful gluten-free picnic no matter where you are.
The following below has been updated with new information provided by Chipotle as of 5/25/17

Most of you know that many of the foods at Chipotle are gluten-free or at least safe to an extent. Cross contamination is possible at any restaurant but, for the most part, Chipotle seems to do a pretty good job. There are few foods to cross contaminate with, which is nice, but this could all change within the next year. You may have recently heard that Chipotle will be releasing new Wheat Flour Desserts (buñuelos). Why does this matter to you? Well it’s important to know now that this new item will come with a lot of cross contamination issues for those of us who are gluten-free. Unfortunately, the chips on their menu will no longer be safe for those with celiac disease as well. This will only be in select locations for now but it looks like it may roll out into every location in the near future. Read why below.

Typical doctors see hundreds of patients a month. None of them have the time to focus on your case and you alone. If you're fed up with seeing doctors only to get no where with your on going illness, it's time to turn to academic medical research centers. Doctors at research centers often focus on just your case and you alone. They often have the most up-to-date research and the best technology in the industry. Whether you need help with celiac disease, adrenal fatigue, DH, or any on-going medical problem, medical research centers may be the best to help. Surely you don't want to travel across the U.S. to see one. And I'm sure you don't want to spend hours online researching too. That's why I created this list for the best medical research centers in each state so that you can hopefully get a doctor who will listen.

Note: Each link leads to the college's medical center website. Some medical institutes may require a referral from a physician. Each site will provide a form to print out or they will give you steps on how to get referred.

Advice:
If you're at the point where doctors aren't helping you any more, I recommended finding one of these research centers to help. Some people, like myself, travel states to get seen by the best doctors. Definitely look into these colleges and take the time to travel to an center even if it isn't close. If you're tired of feeling like crap, getting a doctor who will be dedicated to your case can make a difference.

These universities were ranked in the top 100 best medical centers for research by Forbes.com.
Trick or Treat is right around the corner which means going out with food allergies can always make this a tough situation. You don't want your kids to not enjoy the fun experiences of dressing up, walking around to each house, grabbing as much candy as one can get. But of course, you also don't want your child to get terribly sick from the many food allergies that they may have to avoid. Us food allergy bloggers have lots of experiences in being a parent in these situations (myself excluded). Keep your children safe this Halloween but still let them have fun with these Tips on How to Trick or Treat with Food Allergies!

When it comes to GlutenAway, Taylor is the voice and driver of this blog and everything social media. In the past I haven’t contributed much when it comes to content unless it was something that I truly feel will benefit his followers – advice on parenting, social situations, etc.

In the past four years, I have had five people in my life try to commit suicide. Three with pills and two with a gun. This past week, someone I knew well and worked closely with took her own life. She was an incredible human being – giving, bright, driven and loved by so many. She was well known in the professional community. No one saw this coming. I am left shocked and saddened. Left wondering how I can help or if there is something that I can do.

Depression in general needs to be addressed in this country as a true medical condition. More importantly, the stigmatism behind mental health illnesses needs to be addressed and confronted head on. I thought if there's anything I can do, I can bring awareness to the connection between Celiac Disease, gluten sensitivities, and depression and help those who are diagnosed or coping with this illness.  To help them know that they are not alone, that there is some scientific medical reasoning behind it, and that there is no shame in reaching out or talking to someone for help.

I've traveled to quite a few places before in my 18 years of living but you'd be surprised to know that I haven't traveled to many places since going gluten-free. Sure, traveling around the U.S. is already considered hard enough as a celiac. But traveling to a country where people speak very little English is even harder. This past week my mom and now step-dad got married in Punta Cana as what I would call one of the most fun weeks of my life. The destination was perfect, the friends and family there was perfect, the entertainment was perfect. But when you're celiac, there's one thing that may matter to you most out of all when you travel. The food. Most of the time the food was amazing and I felt 100% safe! But other times I was left searching for food, feeling like I didn't have many options. By the end of the trip I learned that it's all about where you dine rather than the resort itself. That's why I'm here to help you know how to have a gluten-free paradise at the Hard Rock Punta Cana Hotel.
By now you know that General Mills has recalled 1.8 million boxes of "gluten-free" cheerios due to the presence of wheat within their product. In case you've been living under a rock and haven't heard about this story yet, you can read the full recall, here.

I personally never tried the new "gluten-free" cheerios because of this very reason. I knew that something would go wrong sooner or later and I guarantee an incident like this will happen again. It's bound too. It truly sucks to see so many people get excited about a product like this, only to be glutened yet again. If you've read the process on how they make cheerios gluten-free, it makes zero sense. Not that I don't believe that their process works. But it makes zero sense as to how they can guarantee each box is under 20 ppm...the truth is, they can't.

I hate being the one to tell you this but Cheerios being gluten-free is not something we can trust. I'd love to tell you to go grab a box of Cheerios right now and get at it, but simply, it's not the truth. Cheerios can't be trusted because of this incident and unfortunately, it will not be the last.

Instead of continuing to eat Cheerios hoping that an incident like this won't happen again, why don't I offer you some awesome alternatives to Cheerios that you can ACTUALLY trust. See below :)

Like most guys, I love sports. Watching football, basketball, and baseball is something that I love to do. It's easy to watch sports from the comfort of home when you have all the gluten-free food you can eat, but going to an actual game is a completely different story. That's why I looked up every venue to see which stadiums have gluten-free options and which do not for the 2015-2016 season. I hope this helps many of you!

I'm 18 years old so I'm luckily done with the "back to school" days when it comes to high school. However, I will be starting college soon which means that I'll have to be prepared when it comes to eating gluten-free away from home. Eating gluten-free is already hard enough when you're an adult but planning for your kids can be much harder! Here are my top healthy gluten-free snacks for back to school that can be great for any age.

There are many myths out there about being gluten-free that you'd be surprised people would actually believe. I come across these myths almost every single day and get countless comments from people who believe in them. Even some of those who are gluten-free believe in them but you can be one to judge for yourself. Being gluten-free isn't easy, so take the time to read these 5 myths and put them all to bed within the public and gluten-free community.

Living a healthy lifestyle can be difficult but adding in a gluten restriction can make coming up with appetizing meals seem impossible. By keeping a few key healthy foods stocked in your fridge you can relieve yourself the stress of coming up with a new meal everyday. Just mix these healthy foods into creative plates and you’ll feel energized and healthy all week long.

Have you ever been picked on for being gluten-free? Gotten an insensitive comment from someone saying, "oh, that must really suck you can't eat gluten." As teenagers, we see bullying almost every day. We grow up in a world where food allergies are becoming more and more prominent, yet some of us are still not taken seriously. I, myself, was never really bullied much as a kid. I grew up having a pretty normal life and always faced every situation with positivity. But when I got diagnosed with Celiac Disease at age 13, that started to change. People saw it as something that made made me different and saw it as something to pick on me about. I didn't show them that it bothered me, I didn't give them a reason to continue bullying me because fortunately enough, I enjoyed eating gluten-free. As a young teenager at the time, I thought high school would be the end of it. I assumed that only kids picked on each because surely a grown adult couldn't be immature enough to bully one another over food. But guess what? I was wrong.
If you're just going gluten-free, you've probably done a lot of research or at least looked into what may contain gluten. We're all pretty fortunate enough to live in an age where so much information is available on the internet with the touch of a button. A place where people can share expert information on forms and everything people need to know about gluten. It's pretty great, isn't it? As our president once said,

Man he was a cool guy. At this point I hope you know that not everything you read on the internet is true. There's actually been a lot of misconceptions going around about certain items that contain gluten, but actually do not! Here are some of the top 10 most common items that people mistake for containing gluten. I even thought some of these contained gluten for a while!

Every May, we spend the month trying to raise awareness for a disease we all know. Celiac Disease. There are so many people who are still undiagnosed, unaware, or uneducated about Celiac Disease in the United States. I definitely agree that we need to keep spreading awareness for our disease so that people understand and know that it's real. Within our community, Celiac Disease is always talked about year round, but what about the other underlying health problems that come along with it? Osteoporosis is just one of the many serious health problems that can come from undiagnosed Celiac Disease. Years of consuming gluten when the body shouldn't be ingesting it can cause so many problems, osteoporosis being one of them. That's why it's so important to not only spread awareness for Celiac Disease this month, but to also spread awareness for the other health problems that can come along with it.

You may be surprised to know that some naturally gluten-free products you buy from main brands like, Publix, Kroger, Giant Eagle, etc. may not actually be gluten-free. Nuts, vegetables, and other naturally gluten-free products can be made on shared equipment possibly with wheat. Lately, I've been trying to pay more attention to the labels on the foods I eat. I've always been pretty good about reading labels but the one thing I haven't paid much attention to is whether a product is made on shared equipment or not. You may be aware of what ingredients to look out for or how safe certain products are, but when it comes to food being made on shared equipment, how safe are you?

So I like to think that I am a really educated gluten free person who has been through the ropes and has a pretty good grasp on what is and what Is not gluten-free.  For years now I have been eating sushi without a care in the world … that is until last weekend.  We were out with a group of friends and we ordered our food.  I ordered a tuna roll and brought my San-J Tamari Soy Sauce with me – prepared and ready to eat.  The waiter just happened to overhear a conversation that I was having with my friends about my gluten free diet and he told me that their sushi was not gluten free.  He said that the product they used to hold the rice together contained wheat.  What????  My mind was completely blown.  All these years I thought that I was safely eating sushi when who knows how many times I got sick and had no idea it was from the sushi.

Since going gluten-free, I'm sure there's many foods you've grown to miss. You may have trouble finding the right alternative or you don't find a good alternative at all! With my new "Gluten Free Substitutions" posts, I hope to make that better by sharing with you all the best gluten-free recipes and products to replace the foods you once missed. Some products have easy gluten-free substitutions you can find with the help of the ContentChecked app. While other products don't have any alternatives at all and may need a little more help to make. That's why I'm kicking off this campaign with a substitution for one of the most missed foods in the gluten-free community...Twizzlers.
As someone with Celiac Disease, I have found that one of the toughest things for me to do is maintain a healthy digestive system.  It seems that no matter how hard I try I somehow get “glutened” at one time or another and then spend weeks recovering.  Most of you know that this past year we started hosting Online Gluten Free Expos which have been so much fun to develop and build.  One of the best things about the online expos have been all the great products we have learned about while researching companies to fill our booth spaces.  Gluten Intolerance Essentials ended up being one of those great finds that I just had to write about and share on my blog outside of the expos because of how much it has helped me and my family.

By now you've probably all heard about the new gluten-free options coming to both Pizza Hut and Coors Light. If you haven't heard about this day yet and you're a guy, this is probably the best day of your life. Pizza Hut and Coors announced that they will be offering gluten-free options coming soon by the end of this month. In a way, it's an awesome win for the gluten-free community! But when big companies get involved to the gluten-free industry, you have to wonder if they're going to do it right. Here's all the big things you need to know about both products and when you can see them coming soon!
