What The Heck? Wednesday #18 (Adrenal Gland)

I decided to do this video and post on an important topic many aren't aware of. The adrenal gland plays a vital role into everyone's life and how they live. I wanted to share with you some things about it and how it can cause you to have many symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, GI issues, and so much more. Many people are not aware of the adrenal gland and I hope to make much more aware to show you what you need to know with this post.

What the adrenal gland affects:
  • The adrenal gland effects nearly every part of the body since it helps signals to the brain when the body is under stress. Stress can be both mental and physical. It can come from getting glutened, getting sick, or getting hurt. But it can also come from an emotional event like a family member passing, financial problems, or being to stressed at work. Stress comes in many forms and if put under too much stress it can cause adrenal fatigue which is listed with the symptoms below. The doctor you would see to test your adrenal gland would be an Endocrinologist.

Symptoms of adrenal fatigue:
  • Excessive fatigue and exhaustion
  • Low stamina
  • Difficulty recovering from exercise
  • Feeling run down
  • Feeling overwhelmed or unable to cope with stress
  • Craving salty and sweet foods
  • Feeling more energetic in the evening
  • Waking up tired, even after a long night sleep
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Being slow to recover from stress, injury, or illness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Being highly susceptible to colds, flus, or illness
  • Food or environmental allergies
  • Premenstrual syndrome or unusually problematic menopause
  • Consistent low blood pressure
  • Extreme sensitivity to cold

What to avoid to help with adrenal fatigue:
  • Avoid caffeine as much as possible
  • Avoid sugary foods and drinks especially in the mornings
  • Avoid exercising intensely without taking breaks
  • Avoid staying up late as much as possible
  • Avoid excessive alcohol use
  • Avoid overexertion with work or exercise

What to do to help:
  • Eat 6 small meals instead of 3 large one to regulate blood sugar if possible!
  • Try and get a full 8 hours of sleep!
  • Get out in the sun as much as possible for that vitamin D!
  • Get ginger root supplements which help with the adrenal gland.
  • Get zinc, Vitamin C, and B Vitamins as much as possible!
  • Take breaks off work or stressful situations to give relaxing time to yourself!

I have many posts which share more about the adrenal gland below:

  1. Thanks for this post, this has been something I've been wondering about since I started following your blog a few months ago. I got diagnosed with allergies to gluten, egg, dairy, peanuts, and rye in June and have cut everything out but still feel exhausted all the time. My doctor wants to run more tests but I am skeptical they can figure it out. It's been more than two years of doctor's now so I am still wary. I think I will definitely be looking into this more.
