Starting My Paleo Experience

Starting in 2013 along with all the other changes I am hoping to make, I will be beginning a paleo diet! There are a lot of things for me to still learn, but overall I feel like this will be my biggest challenge. I am a little worried about how hard it will be since I am already gluten and dairy free. But I also ask myself, "How hard could it be?" It's just basically eating the same natural foods we should be eating in the first place! There are a lot of reasons and benefits that caused me to think of possibly going paleo, so here are just some of them.

Reasons I want to make this change:

       1.  My biggest reason is I still have digestive problems
    • I have been trying to figure it out forever, removing dairy and gluten has definitely helped, but there is still something wrong that I am eating every day..hopefully this can be the solution.
       2.  I've heard nothing but great things about it
    • All I hear from people is how rejuvenated they feel after making this life changing decision to their diet and how much it is worth it. Could it really be true?
       3.  It will force me to eat natural
    • Right now I try to eat natural as much as I can, every once in a while I bake a tons of gluten-free stuff which obviously isn't the healthiest thing. Maybe eating just natural foods will help too!
        4.  No more dissecting food labels
    • Think about it, how annoying is it being gluten-free and having to read and dissect a food label just to make sure you don't get glutened? And that's not even guaranteeing the fact that there may be cross contamination or not. If I went Paleo, this would no longer be a hassle!
        5.  It will help with my Chronic Adrenal Disorder
    • With my rare type of disorder, I am always researching and trying to find ways to help make my life better. One major thing I found was that going back to the caveman diet (a.k.a. Paleo Diet) greatly improves my overall Adrenal health making me realize that obviously this diet is the right thing to do. Questions for you! (Comment below..)

       1. So, have you tried the Paleo diet? If so how has it benefited you and what is the #1                      thing you thing you like about it?

       2.  If you haven't tried it what is the main reason you haven't tried it so far?

       3.  If you could give 1 tip for first starting a Paleo diet, what would it be?

  1. Hey man, that's cool you are starting a Paleo diet. I always thought about trying it, but never got around to pulling the trigger (not really sure why). Interested in hearing how it goes for you!

  2. Taylor, I think that it's great that you're listening to your body and doing what you need to do to feel better. We're gf and dairy-free, too. We also found that we had to eliminate corn, soy, GMOs, yeast and nuts to feel better. We haven't tried the Paleo diet and look forward to hearing how you do on it.

  3. Thanks Brian, I'll let you know how it goes after a couple months. I've also done research and learned that it will help improve my adrenal disorder too which is something I learned after creating this post. I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks Celeste, I've also eliminated soy, dairy, and GMO's and noticed that has helped my overall health as well. Thanks for your comment and I'll make sure to put some posts up over this next year to show how it may improve my overall lifestyle. Thanks again!

  4. Taylor, I'm inspired by your drive to be kind to yourself through food. I'm gluten, milk, soy, sugar and caffeine free. You've probably found this in your research, but the missing piece of the puzzle for me was seeing a chiropractic kinesiologist who can muscle test each individual food to see if it makes me weak or strong when he tries to push down my arm. It's helped me to see exactly what I could have and what I couldn't before I tried it and had a reaction. My sister has similar allergies/sensitivities and swears by her naturopath. We're fortunate to have so many resources available. I have no idea what I'd do without all the gluten free stuff at the supermarket and gentle/natural health care. The Paleo Diet seems like a great thing to try. All the best to you.

  5. Thanks Kai! I've actually never heard of that before to get tested, but I will definitely have to look into it more. It's great to hear you have so many resources to make you and the rest of your family know what feels best. I'll be posting a follow up post to how I feel on the Paleo diet in a couple months so I'll make sure to let you know when I do. Thanks again for the comment!

  6. You can search for "Applied Kinesiologist" in your town to see who does that kind of testing and treatment. The key is that they look at you as a whole person with interconnected systems, and everything is related. I was going to one doctor for my thyroid, another doctor for my back, another doctor for my skin, but a kinesiologist sees what is really going on in your body as a unified whole and treats the underlying food allergies, endocrine imbalances, or immune issues you're having. They can use nutritional supplements, chiropractic adjustments and advice about what to eat and not eat to help you feel your best. I highly recommend it. And some are covered by health insurance under chiropractors, so that's a huge plus.
It's worth checking into because it changed my life when my doctor put the whole thing together for me, gluten being at the center.

  7. That sounds like something that could really help. Idk if you've read my story but I have a rare type of adrenal disorder that has to do with the endocrine system and eating the right balance of food at the right times is crucial to how I feel each day. I still am getting used to trying to get the right diet to make me feel best so maybe this could be my answer or at least something that could greatly help my overall health. Thanks again so much for your help.

  8. I'm so glad that it's something you want to pursue, Taylor. :)
When I saw that you had an adrenal disorder as well I was reminded about my thyroid issue and how astounded I was to find out that they were connected to my immune system. I had an inkling that this kind of care may be a very important thing for you to check out. Western medicine is great with lots of very capable doctors, it's just that the approach is limited to that one thing they are trained in and it's not always as effective for underlying causes of food allergies, in my experience. My kinesiologist asked me about my stress level, how life is going, how much exercise and sleep I get, what foods I crave, etc., as well as my symptoms. It was very complete and I had no idea why he wanted to know all that stuff at first, but now I see that he was getting information about me, the whole me. You'll know when you meet the right doctor for you. I felt like "Finally! I'm not nuts! There is help." It was life changing.
I wish you all good things as you move toward that health and balance that you deserve.
